Comment. Depending on the nature of the power window malfunction, the test sequence and the range of items to be checked differ. Therefore, the troubleshooting sequence is given for two typical cases of power window malfunctions, from which you choose your case.
You will need a multimeter to do the job.
All power windows not working
1. We check the fuse F15 of the mounting block located in the passenger compartment (see «Fuse and relay mounting blocks»). If necessary, replace it. Turn on the ignition (turn the key in the ignition switch to position II) and check the operation of the power windows. If the fuse blows again, there is a short circuit in the electric window circuit that should be repaired (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»). On cars with only front electric windows, we also check the fuse F20 of the mounting block located in the passenger compartment (see «Fuse and relay mounting blocks»). If necessary, replace it. Turn on the ignition (turn the key in the ignition switch to position II) and check the operation of the power windows. If the fuse blows again, there is a short circuit in the electric window circuit that must be repaired (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
2. Check the power window control unit (see «Power window control unit - check and replace»).
3. Check the electrical circuit of the power windows (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
Rear power windows not working
1. We check the fuse F17 of the mounting block located in the passenger compartment (see «Fuse and relay mounting blocks»). If necessary, replace it. Turn on the ignition (turn the key in the ignition switch to position II) and check the operation of the power windows. If the fuse blows again, there is a short in the electric window circuit that needs to be repaired (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
2. Check the power window control unit (see «Power window control unit - check and replace»).
3. Check the electrical circuit of the rear power windows (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
One of the power windows does not work
Comment. Below we consider the situation when the power window does not work either from the control unit or from the key on the passenger door. If the power window does not work only from the key or only from the unit, then the malfunction, respectively, is either in the key (see «Passenger door power window controls - check and replace»), or in the block (see «Power window control unit - check and replace»). If they are serviceable, then a malfunction in the wiring to the key or to the block (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
1. If the driver's door power window does not work, check the power window control unit (see «Power window control unit - check and replace»).
2. Disconnect the wiring harness block from the gear motor (see below).
3. We connect the power window control button or the power window control unit (on the driver's door).
4. Turn on the ignition, measure the voltage with a multimeter in voltmeter mode (should be within 11-14 V) between terminals 1 and 4 of the wiring harness block (numbers are printed on the body of the block, the colors of the wires are red and brown). If there is no voltage, then the electrical wiring from the fuse box to the gear motor is faulty (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
5. We measure the voltage between terminals 2-4 and 3-4 with the power window control key pressed in various positions. When the key is pressed down, the voltage should be within 11-14 V on one of the pairs of contacts, and when pressed up, on the other. If there is no voltage, the electric window circuit is faulty (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
6. If the voltage test did not reveal any faults, then the power window is faulty, it must be replaced (see below).
