Removal
1. Remove the ground cable from the battery. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the engine splash guard.
1.6L petrol engine
2. Unscrew the two nuts and remove the wires from the traction relay contacts.
3. Remove the nut and ground bus from the top starter bolt.
4. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the starter from under the car.
Petrol engines 1.8 and 2.0 l
5. Remove the bolts and intake manifold support bracket.
6. Unscrew the two nuts and remove the wires from the traction relay contacts.
7. Remove the bolts and remove the starter from the bottom of the engine compartment.
Diesel engine 1.7 l
8. Unscrew the two nuts and remove the wires from the traction relay contacts.
9. Remove the bolts and remove the starter from the bottom of the engine compartment.
Diesel engine 2.0 l
10. To improve access to the starter, remove the exhaust pipe.

11. Remove the bolts and heat shield from the starter.
12. Remove the bolts and intake manifold support bracket.
13. Unscrew the two nuts and disconnect the wires from the traction relay contacts.
14. Remove the nuts and bolts and remove the rear starter support bracket.
15. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the starter from the bottom of the engine compartment.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
