Steering rod — removal and installation (Opel Vectra B)

Removal

1. Remove the steering gear.

2. Remove the appropriate tie rod end.

3. Measure the distance from the tie rod end lock nut to the end of the tie rod, then loosen the lock nut.

4. Loosen the clamps and remove the steering gear protective boot.

5. Unscrew the inner ball joint of the steering rod from the toothed rack and remove the steering rod.

Installation

1. Tighten the ball joint into the rack to the specified torque.

2. Install the steering gear protective cover on its housing and steering rod and secure it with clamps.

3. Screw the lock nut back into the position it was in before removal.

4. Install the tie rod end.

5. Install the steering gear.

6. Check and, if necessary, adjust the front wheel alignment angles.
