Removal



1. Remove the upper timing chain cover and sprockets.

2. Remove the cylinder head. Theoretically, it is possible to remove the timing chain cover without removing the cylinder head, but this will likely damage the cylinder head gasket.

3. Remove the cooling system pump.

4. Remove the crankshaft pulley. When loosening the pulley mounting bolt, temporarily remove the crankshaft locking pulley, and after removing the pulley, install the locking pin in place.

5. Remove the oil pan.

6. Remove the generator.

7. Remove the power steering pump.

8. Unscrew the lower head of the chain tensioner and remove the plunger of the chain tensioner mechanism.

9. Unscrew the bolts securing the chain cover to the engine block and remove the cover. Keep in mind that the bolts are different lengths.

10. Unscrew the pivot bolt and remove the upper (1) and lower (2) chain tensioners.

12. Temporarily remove the sprocket from the fuel pump and remove the chain cover gasket, then reinstall the sprocket.

Installation



1. Replace the crankshaft oil seal ring.

2. Check that the mating surfaces of the cover and cylinder head are clean and dry and that the guide pins are in their seats.

3. Temporarily remove the sprocket from the fuel pump shaft, install the gasket and position it on the guide pins. Install the sprocket onto the fuel pump shaft.

5. Install the chain tensioners and secure them with the pivot bolt.

6. Install the chain cover in place, align the oil pump drive with the crankshaft sprocket and slide the cover onto the guide pins.

7. Tighten the chain cover mounting bolts gradually and sequentially.

8. Install a new O-ring to the lower head of the chain tensioner.

9. Install the crankshaft pulley.

10. Install the cylinder head.

11. Install the top chain cover and sprockets.

12. Install the oil pan.

13. Install the coolant pump, alternator, power steering pump and accessory drive belt.

14. Fill the engine with engine oil and coolant.

15. Start the engine and check for leaks.
