Note. The engine is removed only if it is necessary to completely overhaul or replace the crankshaft.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Remove air filter.
Remove the hood.
Disconnect the supply hoses from the radiator and thermostat, then the hose from the water pump and drain the coolant.
Disconnect the outlet hose from the radiator. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the expansion tank and heater. Remove radiator.
Disconnect the coolant hose from the heater and the vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
Shine alternator drive belt and power steering pump drive belt (if it is installed).
On carbureted engines, depending on the carburetor model, disconnect the choke and throttle control cables or only the throttle control cable. Disconnect the fuel supply hose from the fuel pump, and the fuel drain hose from the carburetor.
On engines with a fuel injection system, disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the distribution line and the fuel drain hose from the pressure regulator.
Disconnect the wires from the electrical components installed on the engine.
Tie up the engine.
Raise the front of the car and place it on stands.
Detach the front muffler pipe from the exhaust manifold and from the bracket on the gearbox.
Disconnect the front wheel drive shafts from the gearbox.
On vehicles with a manual transmission, unscrew the input shaft plug on the rear cover of the transmission, remove the retaining ring, unscrew the bolt from the rear end of the input shaft, and completely remove the shaft from the hole in the rear crankshaft flange using a puller.
Loosen the engine mount bracket bolts.
Remove generator.
On vehicles with a manual transmission, remove the clutch housing cover, unscrew the lower bolts securing the clutch housing to the engine. On vehicles with automatic transmission, remove the lower bolts securing the torque converter to the engine block.
Place a jack under the gearbox housing.
Loosen the upper bolts securing the clutch housing or torque converter to the engine block.
Raise the engine and remove it from the engine compartment.
Engine installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
At the same time, install the input shaft of the gearbox in place, as indicated in section «Clutch».
Pour fluid into the cooling system. After installing the engine, start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature, make sure that the connections of hoses and pipelines are tight. and also check the engine adjustment.
