Deactivation and activation of the additional passive safety system (Opel Insignia A)

Servicing of supplemental passive restraint system components will vary depending on their location.

There are several reasons for deactivating the supplemental restraint system, such as repairs to the system or servicing of components located near or connected to the supplemental restraint system components.

There are several ways to deactivate the supplemental passive restraint system, depending on the type of service that is to be performed. The table below provides information on the procedures required to deactivate/activate the supplemental passive restraint system.

Note: * Disconnecting the negative battery terminal will clear diagnostic codes.

Procedure for deactivation/activation by removing airbag fuses

1. Turn the steering wheel of the car so that the front wheels are set in a position corresponding to the straight-line movement of the car.

2. Turn off the ignition.

3. Locate and remove the fuse for supplying power to the additional passive restraint system control unit.

Note. The control unit for the additional passive safety system can have more than one power supply fuse. To avoid the possibility of unwanted activation of the airbags and personal injury, remove all fuses associated with the power supply to the control unit of the additional passive safety system. When the fuses of the SRS control unit are removed and the ignition is switched on, the indicator of the additional passive safety system will light up. This is a normal phenomenon that does not indicate the presence of malfunctions in the system.

4. Wait at least one minute before starting work.

5. After completing the work, make sure that the ignition is off.

6. Install the fuse for the power supply to the additional passive safety system control unit.

7. Turn on the ignition. The additional passive safety system indicator should go out.

8. Perform diagnostics of the additional passive safety system - the SRS indicator should not light up while the vehicle is moving.

Procedure for deactivating/activating airbags by disconnecting the battery

1. Turn the steering wheel of the car so that the front wheels are set in a position corresponding to the straight-line movement of the car.

2. Turn off the ignition.

3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

4. Wait at least one minute before starting work.

5. After completing the work, make sure that the ignition is off.

6. Connect the negative battery terminal.

7. Turn on the ignition. The additional passive safety system indicator should go out.

8. Perform diagnostics of the additional passive safety system - the SRS indicator should not light up while the vehicle is moving.
