There are several reasons for deactivating the supplementary restraint system, such as repairing the system or servicing components that are nearby or connected to components of the supplementary passive restraint system.
There are several ways to deactivate the additional passive safety system, depending on the type of upcoming service. The table below provides information on the procedures required to deactivate/activate the Supplemental Restraint System.
Note: * Disconnecting the negative battery terminal will clear the diagnostic codes.
Deactivation/activation procedure by removing airbag fuses
1. Turn the steering wheel of the car so that the front wheels are in the position corresponding to the rectilinear movement of the car.
2. Turn off the ignition.
3. Determine the location and remove the fuse (-whether) power supply to the control unit of the additional passive safety system.
Note. The Supplemental Restraint Control Unit may have more than one power supply fuse. To prevent unwanted activation of the airbags and injury, you must remove all fuses associated with the power supply to the control unit for the additional passive restraint system. With the SRS control unit fuses removed and the ignition on, the Supplementary Restraint System indicator will illuminate. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with the system.
4. Wait at least one minute before starting work.
5. After completing the work, make sure that the ignition is turned off.
6. Install fuse (-whether) power supply to the control unit of the additional passive safety system.
7. Turn on the ignition. The Supplemental Restraint indicator should turn off.
8. Run diagnostics of the additional passive safety system - the SRS indicator should not light up while the car is moving.
