Disposal of passive safety elements (Opel Insignia A)

Before disposing of any airbags or pretensioners (including disposal of the entire vehicle) it is necessary to perform their disclosure. Only activated ones are allowed to be disposed of (for example, as a result of a collision) airbags and pretensioners. Undeployed airbags and pretensioners must be handled with extreme care. Perform the following procedure.

Forced activation of airbags and pretensioners in the vehicle

If the entire vehicle with SRS is to be scrapped, its airbags and pretensioners must be activated in the vehicle. Airbags and pretensioners cannot be reused and must never be installed in another vehicle.

Activation of airbags and pretensioners is carried out in accordance with the instructions supplied with the relevant special equipment.

The entire airbag or pretensioner module must be discarded. No parts can be reused. Place the module in a strong plastic bag and seal it securely.

Forced deployment of airbags not installed on the vehicle

Intact airbags and pretensioners removed from a scrapped vehicle, defective airbags, as well as airbags damaged during transportation, storage or maintenance are subject to mandatory activation, which is carried out as follows:

1. Make sure that the special equipment functions correctly by following the instructions supplied with it.

2. Place the module outdoors with the cushion facing up. The cushion location should be level and at least 10 m away from any obstacles or people.

Disposal of airbags

1. If the airbag is installed in the vehicle, remove it.

2. In any case, short-circuit the two wires of the airbag pyrotechnic module.
