When the vacuum booster fails, the force on the brake pedal increases significantly, which negatively affects vehicle control.
If the pedal effort when braking is noticeably greater than usual, check the brake booster with the vehicle stationary.

1. With the engine not running, press the brake pedal five to six times at intervals of about 5 seconds; keeping the brake pedal depressed, start the engine - the brake pedal should move forward. If this does not happen, check..

2. …the integrity and reliability of the connection of the vacuum booster hose with the fitting on the engine intake pipe…

3. …and with an amplifier.
Note: The battery and its mounting shelf have been removed for clarity.

4. Remove the battery (see Removal and installation the battery)…

5. …and the shelf for its fastening (see Removal and installation the battery mounting shelf).

6. To check the operation of the check valve, disconnect the wiring harness connector from it by pressing on its spring clip.

7. Loosen the clamp that secures the hose to the inlet pipe valve by squeezing its bent ears with pliers..

8. ...slide the clamp along the hose..

9. …and disconnect the hose from the valve fitting.

10. Remove the vacuum pump hose from the holder…

11. …and the valve from the hole of the sealing sleeve of the brake booster.

12. Insert the bulb tip firmly into the check valve and squeeze it. Air from the bulb should come out through the valve.
Note: Shown with hose removed for clarity.

13. Release the bulb. If it remains compressed, the valve is OK. If there is no bulb, you can blow through the valve with your mouth.
14. If the check valve leaks air in both directions, replace the vacuum hose assembly with the valve, to do this…

15. … squeeze the clamps securing the vacuum hose to the intake pipe fitting, disconnect the hose from the fitting…

16. …and remove the vacuum hose assembly with the check valve.
17. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
