Power steering fluid (Opel Astra H)

30. The fluid reservoir is attached to the steering pump housing and is located in the rear part of the engine compartment.

31. The liquid level is controlled using marks on the side wall of the tank (see accompanying illustration). It is necessary to illuminate the tank with a portable lamp from the opposite side from the marks or through the filler hole so that the height of the liquid level in the tank becomes visible. The level should be between the upper and lower marks. When the liquid is "cold", its level should not fall below the lower mark.

31. The liquid level is controlled using marks on the side wall of the tank (see accompanying…

Note: Depending on the configuration, different models may be equipped with tanks of a different design: a dipstick with MIN and MAX marks may be built into the tank cap - the fluid level should reach the upper mark. Some caps are equipped with limiters - these are cross-shaped plastic plates on the dipstick, designed to prevent splashing and leaking of fluid when driving on an uneven road or with a large inclination.

32. Try not to allow the liquid level to go beyond the lower limit of the permissible range.

33. If necessary, make the appropriate adjustment to the level by adding the required grade of hydraulic fluid into the reservoir neck.

34. If the need to adjust the fluid level occurs regularly and frequently, check the steering pump, rack and pinion housing, as well as all connecting lines of the hydraulic system and their fittings for signs of leaks.
