General information

This chapter describes the checks and adjustments necessary to maintain high vehicle performance, economy, driving safety and durability.

Intensive service

If the maintenance procedure has not been followed for a long time, the following checks and adjustments should be performed more often or as needed. The largest amount of adjustment and setup work is usually performed on the engine. This is especially true for the engine of a used car that has not been subjected to regular or timely checks. In such cases, in addition to periodic maintenance, additional setup work must be performed. If there is a suspicion of engine wear, it is necessary to check the compression in the cylinders and obtain valuable information about the condition of all the main parts of the internal structure of the engine. Based on this information, you can get an idea of the scope and degree of complexity of the upcoming work. If, for example, the compression is such that it clearly indicates severe engine wear, then current maintenance will not restore normal performance and a major overhaul with complete disassembly should be performed. Below is a list of the work that most often needs to be performed to improve persistent abnormal engine operation.

Clean, inspect and test the battery.

Check the condition and level of all fluids in the engine.

Check the condition and tension of all belts.

Replace the spark plugs.

Check the condition of the air filter.

Replace the fuel filter.

Check the condition of all hoses.

If the above mentioned measures do not produce results, then do the following.

Check the battery charging system.

Check the fuel and ignition systems.

Resetting the service reminder indicator

1. All Astra and Zafira models are equipped with an LCD display indicating the need for routine vehicle maintenance (SID display). The display is mounted at the bottom of the speedometer. When weekly maintenance is required, the display shows INSP. After maintenance, the display should be reinstalled.

2. Turn off the ignition. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button.

3. Turn on the ignition and continue to hold the reset button for 3 seconds.

4. After the inscription disappears, release the button.
