Disconnecting the battery in the "P" position of the selector lever will lock the latter. To release the lever, carefully remove the sealing element installed around its base from the center console, then use a small flat-blade screwdriver to press the locking tab to the left of the selector lever.
1. Move the selector lever in the passenger compartment from the extreme forward position to the extreme rear position, and make sure that the successive selected positions correspond to the indicator readings - if necessary, make the required adjustment (see below).
2. Set the lever to the "P" position.
3. To gain access to the gear selection cable, remove the battery with the mounting tray (see Chapter Engine electrical equipment).
4. Find the support bracket for the gear selection cable on top of the transmission housing and release the end of the latter from it by carefully pulling out the retainer.

5. Make sure that the selector lever is in the "P" position, then turn the actuator lever on the transmission housing forward until it stops, thereby switching the AT to the "P" position. By clicking the lock, fix the gear selection cable in this position.

6. Install and connect the battery, then check the correct operation of the selector - repeat the adjustment if necessary.
