The car is equipped with a dry-type single-disk clutch with a central pressure diaphragm spring. The clutch release drive is hydraulic.
The clutch consists of a basket (pressure plate assembly) and slave disk. The basket is a steel casing in which a pressure diaphragm spring and a pressure plate are installed.
A diaphragm-type pressure spring presses the disc from the side of the casing. The clutch basket is attached with six bolts to the flywheel. A driven disk is installed between the pressure plate and the flywheel.
Friction linings are riveted to two sides of the driven disk. To dampen torsional vibrations at the moment the clutch is engaged, a damper with four coil springs is built into the driven disc. The hub of the driven disk enters splined engagement with the input shaft of the gearbox.
Clutch release hydraulic drive consists of master and slave clutch release cylinders connected by pipeline. Clutch uses brake fluid (the reservoir of the hydraulic drive of the clutch is combined with the reservoir of the GTZ). A feature of the clutch release hydraulic drive for Opel Astra and Zafira cars is the clutch release slave cylinder, made as a single unit with a release bearing. This made it possible to reduce the number of hydraulic drive parts, however, it complicated the process of replacing the working cylinder - to replace it, it is necessary to remove the gearbox. In addition, a special damper is installed in the hydraulic drive, which ensures smooth engagement of the clutch even when the pedal is suddenly released.
