Clutch — design description

The clutch serves to disconnect the gearbox or engine and connect it to the engine when changing gears, as well as for smooth starting. The clutch consists of a clutch basket with a pressure plate and a driven clutch disk, which are connected to the engine flywheel.

In the gearbox housing on the drive shaft, a rotating bushing is installed with a maintenance-free release bearing. Outside the gearbox housing, on the release shaft, a lever is installed on which the clutch cable is secured.

Job

When engaged, the clutch disc is pressed against the flywheel by the pressure plate due to the diaphragm springs, so that the force is transmitted from the engine crankshaft to the gearbox input shaft. The release bearing is free. When the clutch pedal is pressed, the release bearing, overcoming the resistance of the diaphragm springs, moves through the clutch cable and the release shaft and presses the pressure plate. The clutch disc, between the pressure plate and the flywheel, is released and the gearbox is disconnected from the engine.
