            0

Contents: Examination ⬇ Replacement ⬇
On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, a key lock solenoid is attached to the contact group, which does not allow the key in the ignition switch to be turned to position 0 until the selector is moved to position P.

If the lock is faulty, check and, if necessary, replace the solenoid.

If the lock is faulty, check and, if necessary, replace the solenoid.

Examination

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Remove the contact group (see "Ignition Switch Contact Group - Checking and Replacing").

3. Using a multimeter in ohmmeter mode, measure the resistance of the solenoid winding.

3. Using a multimeter in ohmmeter mode, measure the resistance of the solenoid winding.

The resistance should be about 13 ohms.

Another, more accurate way is to apply 12 V to its terminals. In this case, its performance can be judged by the characteristic clicks.

If the solenoid is faulty, it must be replaced (see below). If the solenoid is in good condition, but the lock still does not work, it is necessary to check the selector position sensor in mode P (see "Automatic transmission mode selector - removal, repair and installation").
