General description of on-board electrical equipment (Opel Vectra C)

            0

System type: 12V, negative grounded.

Note: The list of electrical equipment installed on the vehicle is determined by the configuration of a specific model. If necessary, refer to the Operation Manual or the supply department of the Opel branded service station.

Caution: Before servicing components of on-board electrical systems, familiarize yourself with the safety requirements for working with electrical devices.

The vehicle is equipped with a 12-volt on-board power supply system with negative grounding. Power is supplied to the lighting devices and other consumers from a lead-acid battery, which is recharged from an alternator. All components are connected to each other by wires, most of the contact connectors of the on-board electrical equipment circuits are made of plastic and are multi-contact. The reliability of the joint of the halves of such connectors is ensured by the snapping of the locking tongues built into the plugs of the locks. Before disconnecting such a connector, carefully study its design in advance - it is often not easy to determine the method of fixing its halves by eye; some connectors are equipped with multiple locking assemblies. Pull only the plug and never the wiring harness to avoid accidentally damaging the terminals built into the connector. This Chapter describes repair and maintenance procedures for electrical components installed on the vehicle that are not directly related to engine operation. For information on servicing components such as the battery, alternator, and starter, see Chapter 5, Engine Electrical Systems.

Before servicing on-board electrical components, to avoid electrical shock or fire from an accidental short circuit, disconnect the negative battery terminal and, in some cases, disconnect the battery completely - always follow the recommendations in Chapter 5. Regularly check the condition of the wiring harnesses and the reliability of their fastening in intermediate clamps, clamps and strapping. Make sure that the insulation of the wires does not wear through when in contact with components located next to the harness.
