  • P - parking position of the gearbox control lever with its lock.
  • R - reverse.
  • N - neutral position.

The engine can only be started when the gearbox control lever is in position P or N.

To exit position P, turn on the ignition, depress the brake pedal and press the button on the gearbox control lever handle.

To move the gearbox control lever to position P or R, press the lock on the lever handle.

The gearshift lever can be set to position P only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop, first applying the parking brake.

The gearshift lever can also be moved to position R only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

When the gearshift lever is in position D, automatic gear shifting occurs from 1st to 4th inclusive.

When the gearshift lever is in position 3, the gearshift automatically shifts from 1st to 3rd gear.


  • Position 2 - shifting gears from 1st to 2nd.

Selecting position 3, 2 or 1 is done in situations where automatic upshifting is not desired, such as 4-3-4 on a winding road or to take advantage of engine braking when driving downhill.

Locking out accidental movement of the gearshift lever To prevent unintentional movement of the gearshift lever to positions P, R, 3 or 1, press the lock located under the lever handle.

When the lever is set to positions 1 and P, the lock is pressed until it stops.

When moving the lever to any position in the direction from 1 to N or from R to D, it is not necessary to press the lock.

Before starting to move, check:
  • tire pressure and condition,
  • engine oil level and fluid levels in the reservoir in the engine compartment,
  • operation of all windows, mirrors and exterior lighting. Make sure that all windows, mirrors and license plates are free of dirt, snow or ice,
  • correct adjustment of seats, seat belts and rear-view mirrors,
  • functioning of the braking system,
  • do not place any objects in front of the rear window or on the instrument panel.
