1. Remove the gearbox as described in Section 6.
2. Mark the clutch cover in relation to the flywheel (photo).
3. Unscrew in diagonal sequence the bolts securing the clutch cover to the flywheel. Unscrew the bolts evenly, otherwise there is a risk of distorting the diaphragm spring. To avoid this, GM uses a special tool shown in Fig. 5.2. Press the diaphragm spring and fix the pressure plate in this position with special brackets before unscrewing the bolts. Removing the staples and then fitting them to the new floor requires the use of a press. However, if the bolts are loosened evenly, there should be no deformation.
4. Lift the cover from the flywheel, remove the friction disc, marking the direction of its installation (photo).
