Self-diagnosis system (Opel Kadett E)

If a fault occurs in the digital engine management system, a warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster (see picture), and the controller switches to the emergency program, which allows you to get to a service station.

If the ignition or injection system malfunctions, before you start to determine the faults of the controller or any sensor, be sure to check the condition of all connectors. To do this, disconnect the connectors, clean them and spray a special agent for restoring electrical contact in an aerosol package.

If the fault does not disappear, short-circuit the corresponding terminals of the diagnostic connector and read the fault code by the blinking of the digital engine control system fault indicator lamp, and then, depending on the reading results, perform the following checks.

To read fault codes from the controller memory, perform the following operations.

Remove the diagnostic connector from the mounting bracket located on the left side of the engine compartment next to the connector for connecting the octane number regulator.

Short-circuit the terminals "A" "mass" and "B" of the connector (see photo), thereby setting the system to the diagnostic display mode. In this case, the "Motronic" system malfunction indicator lamp in the instrument cluster should flash the code "12": switching on (designation of the decimal digit "1"), pause 1 s (interval between decimal digits of the units place), two inclusions (designation of the digit of the units digit "2"). Code "12" means that the diagnostic system is working, and its absence indicates a malfunction in the diagnostic system itself.

After issuing the diagnostic code, the control lamp issues codes of all detected faults in ascending order of their numbers. After entering each code, there is a pause of 2 seconds. The cycle of displaying fault codes is repeated three times. Issuing only diagnostic code "12" indicates normal operation of the injection system, i.e. no failures in operation were registered. Let's assume that fault codes are recorded in the controller memory "15", "44" and "51". In this case, the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster will turn on and off as follows:
