1.6-/1.8-liter engines are equipped with a contactless transistor ignition system (TSZ-H). When working on the ignition system, certain rules must be strictly followed to prevent injury to service personnel and damage to the ignition system.
The ignition system consists of:
- ignition coils,
- distributor with automatic ignition timing adjustment and controlled element (breaker contact/inductive sensor/Hall sensor),
- spark plugs.
In the ignition coil, the 12 V battery voltage is converted to 15,000-20,000 V.
The purpose of the ignition distributor is to induce the ignition control signal and direct the high voltage generated in the ignition coil to a specific spark plug.

A spark occurs on the spark plug electrodes, igniting the fuel-air mixture in the cylinder.
