Attention. A poorly or not at all centered steering angle sensor can limit the vehicle's controllability, which can lead to an accident.
Often the steering angle sensor does not need to be centered. Steering wheel angle sensor alignment should be performed after performing service procedures such as:
- Any changes in the angles of the front wheels.
- Collisions or other physical damage.
- Replacing the electronic brake control unit.
- Intermediate shaft replacement.
- Replacing the steering angle sensor.
- Steering gear replacement.
- Steering column replacement.
- Replacing outer tie rod ends.
The Electronic Brake Control Steering Angle Sensor Alignment procedure using the scan tool is as follows:
1. Using the steering wheel, set the front wheels to the position corresponding to the rectilinear movement of the car.
2. Apply the parking brake or place the automatic transmission in park.
3. Connect the diagnostic tool to the data bus connector.
4. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
5. Feature List «Steering Angle Sensor Configuration/Reset Functions» (Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Module Configuration/ Reset Functions) select function «Steering Angle Sensor Reset» (Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Reset).
6. Following the instructions of the diagnostic tool, complete the learning procedure.
7. Select «Steering Angle Sensor Learning» (Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Learn) on the list «Steering Angle Sensor Configuration/Reset Functions» (Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Module Configuration/Reset Functions).
8. Following the instructions of the diagnostic tool, complete the learning procedure.
9. Select «Steering Angle Sensor Learning» (Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Learn) on the list «ECM configuration/reset functions» (EBCM Configuration/Reset Functions).
10. Following the instructions of the diagnostic tool, complete the learning procedure.
11. Remove any trouble codes that may have occurred during the calibration process.
