Removal and installation the front seat (Opel Astra H)

Caution: When working near Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components, use caution and follow the appropriate safety precautions (see Chapter "Controls and Operating Techniques", Sections 13 and 16)!


Attention: When connecting the battery, no one should be in the car!


1. Disconnect the wires and insulate the battery terminals (see Chapter 5).

2. Move the front seat forward as far as it will go.

3. Remove the cover of the screw securing the seat belt to the front seat (see accompanying illustration), unscrew the screw and separate the mount.

4. Remove the 2 rear bolts securing the front seat runners to the floor. Pull the front seat back and remove it and the runners from the front mountings.

5. Disconnect the electrical wiring connectors under the front seat.

Caution: Before disconnecting the side airbag connector, remove the electrostatic charge by briefly touching a metal, unpainted part of the body, such as a door lock bracket!


6. Remove the seat from the vehicle.

7. Run the threads of the front seat mounting bolts and the seat belt mounting screw, clean them and lubricate them with a locking compound (for example, Loctite 243).



8. Insert the seat into the front mountings and connect the electrical wiring connectors.

9. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. When finished, turn on the ignition and check the serviceability of the SRS using the control lamp on the instrument panel (see Chapter "Controls and operating techniques", Section 17).

12. Disconnect the side cover, unscrew the screw securing the seat belt to the front seat and disconnect the fastening.

13. Remove the 2 bolts securing the front seat to the floor at the rear of the seat, then slide the seat back as far as it will go and remove the 2 front mounting bolts.

14. Release the front seat electrical wiring connector from the holder, press the retainer, pull the connector flap and disconnect it (see accompanying illustration).

Caution: Before disconnecting the side airbag connector, remove any static electricity by briefly touching a metal, unpainted part of the vehicle body, such as a door lock bracket!




15. Remove the seat from the vehicle interior.

16. Run the threads of the front seat mounting bolts and the seat belt mounting screw, clean them and lubricate them with a locking compound (for example, Loctite 243).

17. Install the front seat, tighten the mounting bolts to the required torque and connect the electrical wiring connector.
