Examination
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. We check the serviceability of the fuses and relays of electric fans or the electronic unit (see above).
3. We disconnect the block of the harness of the passages of the electric fan.
4. We pry with a thin slotted screwdriver and remove the protective cover of the terminals of the additional resistor (for clarity, shown on the removed electric fan).
5. Connect the brown wire of the motor wiring harness to «weight», and red with the positive terminal of the battery. A 30 A fuse should be inserted into the piece of wire connecting the red wire to the positive terminal of the battery (see «Checking electrical consumers»). A serviceable electric fan will start to work, it will not work - the electric fan must be replaced (see below). If the fuse blows, the motor has a short circuit and needs to be replaced as well (see below).
6. If the electric fan is working, check the additional resistor (see «Electric fans of the cooling system - checking and replacing the additional resistor»).
7. If the additional resistor is working, then there is a malfunction in the electrical wiring (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
Replacement
1. On the Astra model, with a 10 mm wrench, unscrew the nut securing the negative wire of the engine...
...and disconnect the wire.
2. Using the TORX E8 key, we unscrew the upper left bolt of the electric fan casing.
3. Using the same wrench, unscrew the upper right bolt securing the electric fan casing.
4. Slightly tilting the electric fan back, remove it from the engine compartment.
5. Unsolder the wires of the electric fan from the terminals of the additional resistor.
6. Remove the electric fan wiring harness from the holders on the casing.
7. We remove the electric motor assembly with the impeller by unscrewing the three screws securing it to the electric fan casing with a TORX T15 key.
8. Install the parts in reverse order.
