Battery — charging (Opel Omega A)

            0

1. Under normal operating conditions, the battery should be fully recharged by the generator.

2. Charging from an external power source can be useful for restoring a discharged battery.

3. The battery charge level is easily determined by the indicator called "magic eye" built into the top surface of the battery (Figure 12.1). If the indicator is green, the battery is charged. If the color changes to a darker color and eventually to black, the battery needs charging. If the indicator is yellow, this indicates that the electrolyte level is below normal and the battery must be replaced.

4. Disconnect both wires or better yet, remove the battery.

5. The charging current (in A) should not exceed one tenth of the battery capacity (in Ah). Make sure the voltage is set to 12 V.

6. Connect the charger to the battery, observing the correct polarity (+ to +, and - to -), then turn on. Turn off the circuit before disconnecting the charger. If the battery is equipped with a "magic eye" indicator, then shake the battery periodically to determine the state of charge.

7. It is not recommended to use the accelerated charging mode, as there is a risk of battery rupture due to the rapid formation of gases inside the battery.
