The vehicle is equipped with a 12-volt electrical system with a negative ground terminal. Electrical power is generated by a belt-driven alternator from the crankshaft pulley. A lead-acid battery provides reserve power for starting the engine and for periods of time when the electrical load exceeds the current supplied by the alternator.
As with most automotive electrical systems, most components receive electrical power through wires and return it to the ground through the body structure or other metal structure instead of a wire. This should be taken into account when identifying damage: weak or corroded connections have the same effect as a broken wire.
