Removal and installation brake drums on vehicles up to model year 1984 (Opel Kadett E)

Removal

Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on stands. Remove the rear wheel, marking its position relative to the hub.

Disconnect the parking brake cable from the equalizer.

Loosen the screw that secures the brake drum to the wheel hub and remove the brake drum, first moving the brake shoes away from the drum using adjusting eccentrics if necessary.

Installation

Install the brake drum onto the wheel hub, aligning the hole for the mounting screw with the hole in the hub.



Install the rear wheel and adjust the clearance between the brake shoes and drum as shown below.
