Attention.
Set the vehicle's wheels to a straight-ahead position, and then lock the steering wheel to the steering column to prevent turning. The steering column lock prevents possible damage and malfunctions in the airbag system. The steering wheel must be fixed before removing the following components:
- steering column.
- Steering shaft couplings.
- intermediate shaft (shafts).
After disconnecting these components, do not turn the steering wheel or move the front wheels of the vehicle. Failure to comply with these conditions can cause a violation of the centering of the contact disk and, as a result, damage to the contact disk in the process of further driving the car. If it is suspected that the contact disk is not centered, the contact disk centering procedure must be performed (see chapter «Passive safety»).
Once the steering column is removed from the vehicle, it becomes very susceptible to damage. Dropping the steering column can cause the steering shaft to break or loosen the plastic inserts that make the steering column rigid. Improper positioning of the steering column for transport or storage may cause the steering column mounting brackets to deform. Any of the above damages adversely affects the functionality of the steering column. If it is necessary to remove the steering wheel, use only pullers designed for this purpose. Under no circumstances should a hammer be used to remove the steering shaft, as this will damage the plastic inserts that ensure the rigidity of the steering column.
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. To remove the lower facing of the left part of the instrument panel.
3. To remove the bottom facing of a steering column.
4. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear.
5. Remove four bolts (1) steering column mounts.
Note.
- Replace bolts with new ones after each removal.
- Tightening torque: 22 Nm.
6. Remove the steering column (2).
7. If necessary, disconnect all electrical connectors.
8. If necessary, reinstall the components from the old steering column to the new one.
9. Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
10. After installation, it is necessary to center the steering angle sensor (see chapter «Brake system»).
