Introduction to the Opel Astra H manual (Opel Astra H)

In this manual: models of the ASTRA H series sedan, station wagon and hatchback, produced since 2004, and the Zafira B high-capacity station wagon, produced since 2005, with in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve petrol engines 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2 l and diesel engines 1.3, 1.7, 1.9 l, equipped with a 5- or 6-speed manual gearbox (RCPP), or a 4-speed automatic transmission (AT), as well as an Easytronic robotic gearbox.

Purpose

This Manual is designed to help the car owner fully discover and master the capabilities of his car, as well as avoid dependence on service stations when carrying out most of the work of current maintenance and minor repairs. Quite a lot of attention in the Manual is given to diagnostics of malfunctions of units and systems of the car (in case of their refusal), as well as recommendations and practical advice on eliminating their causes. The Guide includes descriptions of mandatory routine vehicle maintenance procedures and a schedule for their implementation. The data collected and presented in the Guide allows the vehicle owner to determine what maintenance work should be done and when, as well as whether it makes sense to try to do it yourself, or to contact a representative office of the manufacturer or a car service workshop.

This book will also be of interest to workers of non-specialized service stations who have to deal with maintenance and repair of the models described in the Manual. The main attention is paid to current and medium repair of cars based on replacement of failed units, assemblies and replaceable system elements.

Rules for using the Manual

The manual is divided into chapters. Each chapter is divided into numbered sections. Sections, in turn, are divided into subsections and, where necessary, into sub-subsections and consist of paragraphs (also sequentially numbered).

The text offered to the readers' attention is accompanied by explanatory illustrations. Each illustration is numbered in accordance with the number of the paragraph whose material it is intended to supplement. For example, illustration 4.6 explains the material of paragraph 6 of Section 4 of the current chapter. The only exceptions are illustrations included in the Introduction Section and numbered sequentially. The description of procedures mentioned once in the text is usually not repeated a second time. Instead, if necessary, a reference is made to the relevant section (subsection, etc.) the relevant chapter where the procedure has already been encountered. References made without a chapter number refer to the relevant sections/paragraphs of the current chapter. For example, the reference "see Section 8" means that it is necessary to refer to the materials of Section 8 of the Chapter where the reference is found.

References to the location of a component or assembly on the left or right side of the vehicle are based on the assumption that the reader is in the driver's seat facing forward.

The descriptions in this manual are presented in a simple and accessible form. If you strictly follow the recommendations given in the text and in the accompanying illustrations, no particular difficulties should arise in performing the tasks. Due attention should be paid to compliance with the technical parameters and requirements for tightening torques of threaded connections, summarized in the sections of the Specifications and placed at the beginning of each chapter. The specifications should be followed when performing all work. Within individual sections, the necessary dimensions and values for adjustment are not always given.



Simple operations such as "opening the hood" or "loosening the wheel nuts" are taken for granted and are also not always mentioned.

On the contrary, the text describes in detail the most complex procedures that require increased care when performing them.
