Airbags — general information and deactivation (Opel Astra G)

All vehicles are equipped with a driver's side airbag (built into the steering wheel).Passenger Side Airbag Module (mounted on the crossbar under the front trim panel) and side airbags (are located in the backs of the front seats) are installed on some vehicles. When the passenger leaves the seat, the airbag module automatically switches off (the seat has a built-in sensor mat). The passenger airbag is also deactivated when a child seat is installed on the passenger seat (manufactured by OPEL). The signals from the transmitter in the child seat are recognized by the antennas in the passenger seat.

When performing any work near the steering column, disconnect the battery from the ground. Do not expose the airbag container to sudden mechanical loads, heating above 90°C, or exposure to solvents. If the airbag indicator lamp does not go out after turning on the ignition, you should immediately take the car to a service center to check the serviceability of the safety module. Repairing safety modules yourself (even check the circuit with a tester) is strictly prohibited.

Disconnection

1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Remove the key from the ignition.
3. Turn off all consumers.
4. Disconnect the battery from ground, insulate the terminal and wait at least 1 minute.
