Execution sequence
Recommendation. It is advisable to combine the inspection with the inspection of the technical condition of the wipers.
1. Turn on the front washer. The liquid must be supplied under sufficient pressure by four jets from two nozzles. In this case, the internal jets of liquid should fall into the middle of the upper third of the windshield, the external ones - just below the middle.
2. Turn on the rear washer. The liquid must be supplied under sufficient pressure from one nozzle. In this case, the jet of washer fluid should fall on the glass near the middle of the brush.
Faults found must be corrected. Depending on the nature of the windshield washer malfunction, the test sequence and the range of elements to be checked differ. Therefore, the troubleshooting sequence is given for the most typical windshield washer malfunctions, from which you choose your case.
You will need a multimeter to do the job.
It is more convenient to perform a number of checks with an assistant.
Liquid is supplied, but not to the specified parts of the glass
must be adjusted, and if adjustment is not possible due to «souring» replace nozzles (see «Windshield washer nozzles - adjustment and replacement»).
Liquid is supplied, but the pressure is very weak
1. Poor quality (thickening) windshield washer fluid in cold weather (during the cold season).
2. Clogged pump filter (see «Windshield washer reservoir - replacement»),
3. Clamped pipelines.
4. Faulty electric pump (see «Windshield washer pump - replacement»).
Liquid is not supplied from all nozzles, but the sound of the electric pump is heard
1. Check the level of the washer fluid.
2. The windscreen washer tube near the electric pump is damaged or the tube has come off the pump fitting or valve (see «Windshield washer pump - replacement»).
Liquid is not supplied from all nozzles (electric pump not working)
1. Disconnect the wiring harness block from the washer pump (see «Windshield washer pump - replacement»).
2. We connect the multimeter in voltmeter mode to the terminals of the block.
3. Assistant turns on the ignition and washer. The voltage should be 12 V. If there is voltage, replace the windshield washer pump (see «Windshield washer pump - replacement»).
4. If there is no voltage, check the right steering column switch (see «Paddle switches - check and replace»).
5. If the steering column switch is working, check the electrical circuit (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
Fluid does not flow from one of the nozzles
1. The hose jumped off the nozzle (see «Windshield washer nozzles - adjustment and replacement»),
2. Pinched or damaged washer tube.
3. The nozzle is clogged, it must be replaced (see «Windshield washer nozzles - adjustment and replacement»).
