Windscreen washer — checking the technical condition and diagnostics of malfunctions (Opel Zafira A)

            0

The windshield washer plays an important role in ensuring road safety. Its sudden failure can occur at the wrong time and cause a lot of trouble. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically check the technical condition of the windshield washer and promptly eliminate any detected faults.

Sequence of execution

Recommendation: It is advisable to combine the inspection with the inspection of the technical condition of the windscreen wipers.

1. Turn on the front windshield washer. The liquid should be supplied under sufficient pressure by four jets from two nozzles. The inner jets of liquid should hit the middle of the upper third of the windshield, the outer ones - just below the middle.

2. Turn on the rear window washer. The liquid should be supplied under sufficient pressure from one nozzle. The jet of washing liquid should hit the glass near the middle of the brush.

The detected faults must be eliminated. Depending on the nature of the fault of the windshield washer, the sequence of checking and the range of elements to be checked differ. Therefore, the sequence of troubleshooting is given for the most typical faults of the windshield washer, from which you choose your particular case.

To complete the work you will need a multimeter.

It is more convenient to perform a number of checks with an assistant.

Liquid is supplied, but not to the specified parts of the glass

It is necessary to adjust, and if adjustment is impossible due to "souring", replace the injectors (see "Windscreen washer nozzles - adjustment and replacement").

The liquid is supplied, but the pressure is very weak

1. Poor quality windshield washer fluid (thickening) in the cold (in the cold season).

2. The pump filter is clogged (see "Windshield washer reservoir - replacement"),

3. The pipelines are pinched.

4. The electric pump is faulty (see "Windscreen Washer Pump - Replacement").

No fluid is supplied from any of the injectors, but the sound of the electric pump can be heard

1. Check the windshield washer fluid level.

2. The windshield washer tube near the electric pump is damaged or the tube has come off the pump nipple or valve (see "Windscreen Washer Pump - Replacement").

No fluid is supplied from any of the injectors (the electric pump does not work)

1. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the windshield washer pump (see "Windscreen Washer Pump - Replacement").

2. Connect the multimeter in voltmeter mode to the terminals of the connector.

3. The assistant turns on the ignition and windshield washer. The voltage should be 12 V. If there is voltage, replace the windshield washer electric pump (see "Windscreen Washer Pump - Replacement").

4. If there is no voltage, check the right steering column switch (see "Steering column switches - checking and replacement").

5. If the steering column switch is working properly, check the electrical circuit (see "Checking and repairing electrical circuits").

No fluid is supplied from one of the injectors

1. The hose has come off the nozzle (see "Windscreen washer nozzles - adjustment and replacement"),

2. The windshield washer tube is pinched or damaged.

3. The nozzle is clogged and needs to be replaced (see "Windscreen washer nozzles - adjustment and replacement").
