Depending on the model and manufacturer of the generator, the voltage regulator can be made as a single element with a brush assembly, or separately. This section describes two different options.
Replacing the voltage regulator
On Bosch generators, the voltage regulator is usually assembled with a brush assembly and is quite easy to replace. The work is done in the following order.
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the generator (see «Alternator - replacement»).
3. Using a 13 mm socket wrench, unscrew the two nuts 1 and screw 2 with a Phillips screwdriver.
4. Remove the protective cover.
5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the three fastening screws and...
... remove the voltage regulator assembly with the brush assembly.
6. We install the parts in the reverse order.
Brush assembly replacement
On Delphi generators, only the brush assembly, which is separate from the voltage regulator, is usually easily replaced. To replace the voltage regulator itself, it is advisable to contact a specialized workshop. The work is done in the following order.
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the generator (see «Alternator - replacement»).
3. Using the TORX E5 key, unscrew the three screws...
...and remove the protective cover.
4. Using the TORX E5 key, unscrew the two screws 1, disconnect the connector 2 and remove the brush assembly.
5. We install the parts in the reverse order.
