Sequence of execution
1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Start the engine.
3. Turn the temperature regulator of the control unit counterclockwise until it stops (blue sector) and, if installed, turn off the air conditioner (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replacement").
4. Using the electric fan speed control knob, alternately turn on the four speeds of the electric fan (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replacement"). We check the operation of the electric fan and the change in its rotation speed by the intensity of the air flow from the nozzles. If the electric fan does not work at least at one of the speeds, it is necessary to find out the reason (see "Air conditioning fan - check and replacement"). If all fan speeds are running but the air flow is low, the filter is clogged (see "Astra Air Conditioning Filter - Replacement" or "Air conditioning filter model Zafira - replacement"), radiators of the heating or air conditioning system.
5. Turn on the maximum speed of the electric fan. Rotate the rightmost knob for selecting the air flow distribution modes (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replace"), we monitor the change in the direction of the air flow. If the flow distribution does not change, then most likely the control unit or the damper control rod is faulty (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replacement").
6. Warm up the engine to operating temperature, make sure that both the supply and outlet hoses of the air conditioning heater radiator are heated and have approximately the same temperature.

If this is not the case, the cause may be an air lock in the cooling system or a clogged heater radiator.
7. Turn the temperature control knob all the way clockwise - red sector (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replacement").
8. Make sure that the temperature of the air coming out of the instrument panel nozzles starts to increase. If the temperature does not increase, then the control unit or the damper control rod is faulty (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replacement").
9. We make sure that there is no rapid fogging of the glass and the appearance of increased humidity in the cabin, which indicate a leak in the heater radiator and indicate the need to replace it.
Note: Increased fogging of the glass may also be caused by a clogged filter (see "Astra Air Conditioning Filter - Replacement" or "Air conditioning filter model Zafira - replacement") and a malfunction of the air recirculation flap electric drive. To replace and check the recirculation electric drive, it is advisable to contact a specialized service, since it will be necessary to remove the instrument panel.
10. On vehicles equipped with an air conditioning system, turn on the air conditioner (see "Astra climate control unit - checking and replacement" or "Zafira climate control unit - check and replacement"). We make sure that the temperature of the air coming out of the nozzles of the instrument panel begins to decrease. If the temperature does not decrease, then the air conditioning system is faulty, for diagnostics and repair of the air conditioning system, it is advisable to contact a specialized workshop.
