Air conditioning system — precautions (Opel Vectra B)

Some models are equipped with an air conditioning system. The system works as follows. The compressor compresses the reagent and feeds it to the condenser, where the reagent becomes liquid and reduces its temperature. The liquid reagent passes through the expansion valve to the evaporator, where it expands from a high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure gas. This expansion is accompanied by a decrease in temperature, which cools the evaporator. The reagent returns to the compressor and the cycle is repeated. The air that has passed through the evaporator enters the distributor, where it mixes with the hot air that has passed through the heater, as a result of which the set air temperature is achieved.

The only action that can be performed independently on the air conditioning system is replacing the compressor drive belt.

Warning: The air conditioning system is under pressure, so do not loosen any connections in the air conditioning system until the pressure has been relieved.

The air conditioning system must be serviced only by trained technical personnel, trained in safe operating practices, using the proper equipment, observing the depressurization rules, familiar with the methods of collecting and storing the automotive refrigerant.

When carrying out work on the air conditioning system, the following must be taken into account:

The air conditioning system is filled with reagents, which are very dangerous substances. When working with reagents, they should not get on the upholstery, clothes, eyes or the human body. If they get on the body, the reagents will cause severe frostbite. Also, it is forbidden to work with reagents in a closed space, because the reagent vapors can cause suffocation. Reagents are heavier than air, so they are collected in the lower parts of the room or in the inspection pit.



Wear safety glasses when working near the air conditioning system.

If refrigerant gets on your skin or eyes, do not rub the affected area. Rinse immediately with cold water for at least 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical attention or medical attention. Self-medication is not allowed.

Do not expose air conditioning system reagents to open flames as this will produce toxic gas and in some cases may cause an explosion.

Only discharge the air conditioning system into suitable containers, otherwise serious damage will be caused to the surrounding environment.

In case of any disconnection of the air conditioning system, refilling and putting the system in order must be carried out at a service station.

If welding, soldering or other work involving high temperatures is required near the air conditioning system, it must first be discharged.

Cleaning the condenser or evaporator with water vapor is not permitted; only cold water or compressed air should be used.
