  • Check the wire fastening, clean the terminals and tighten the nuts

The battery charging indicator light has burned out
  • Replace the light bulb

The voltage regulator is faulty
  • Check the regulator. Replace if necessary

Open circuit between generator, ignition switch and battery charge indicator light
  • Check the power supply with an ohmmeter, following the electrical diagram. If necessary, repair the wire break.

Carbon brushes do not fit into the slip ring
  • Check the ease of movement of the brushes in the holder, as well as the remaining length of the brushes. Replace the brushes if necessary

Battery charge indicator light does not go out when engine speed increases

The V-belt is loose or slipping
  • Check the condition of the V-belt and tensioner. Replace the belt if necessary

The overrunning clutch is faulty (only cars with turbocharger)
  • Remove the alternator and turn the alternator drive shaft to the left. If the belt pulley does not rotate at the same time, then, as a rule, the overrunning clutch is faulty

Voltage regulator/generator faulty
  • Disconnect the wire from the D+ terminal and turn on the ignition. If the indicator light does not light, then, as a rule, the voltage regulator or generator is faulty

Wear of voltage regulator carbon brushes

  • Inspect the carbon brushes. Replace if necessary

Generator faulty
  • Check the generator and replace it if necessary

Broken wire between generator and regulator
  • Disconnect the blue-insulated wire from the T32a/block 12 plug on the back of the instrument panel. Turn on the ignition. If the indicator lamp does not light, the wire at terminal D+ is shorted to ground (-). Replace the wiring harness.

The instrument panel is faulty
  • If after disconnecting the wire with blue insulation from the T32a plug, the signal lamp lights up when the ignition is turned on, then, as a rule, the instrument panel is faulty
