1. Before carrying out a major overhaul of a heavily worn starter motor, compare the cost of the repair with the cost of a new starter. If the difference is small, then it is not advisable to carry out the repair.
2. Premature failure of one of the starter components such as the traction relay, brushes or pinion can be eliminated by removing the starter as described above.
