Removing the water pump
Drain coolant.
Shine the alternator drive belt.
Remove the front toothed belt guard.
Turn the engine crankshaft to the TDC position of the end of the compression stroke of the 1st cylinder. In this case, the mark on the crankshaft pulley must be opposite the mounting lug on the cylinder block, and the mark on the camshaft pulley must be aligned, depending on the engine model, with the mark on the rear top cover of the toothed belt or with the mark on the camshaft bearing housing.
Unscrew the three bolts securing the water pump, loosen the tension of the toothed belt and remove it.
Remove the lower toothed belt guard, then remove the water pump.
Water pump installation
Install the water pump with a new seal on the cylinder block, install the bottom rear toothed belt guard.
Install the water pump mounting bolts.
Put on the toothed belt and adjust its tension as indicated above.
Tighten the water pump housing bolts.
Install the alternator drive belt and adjust its tension as indicated in the section «electrical equipment».
Install the front toothed belt guard.
Pour fluid into the cooling system.
Thermostat replacement
Disconnect the supply hose from the thermostat housing.
Remove the front toothed belt guard and unscrew the thermostat box.
Remove the thermostat from the box.
Install the new thermostat with a new gasket in the reverse order of removal, paying attention to its correct position.
Coolant replacement
Disconnect the radiator inlet and outlet hoses and drain the coolant into a clean container.
Connect the hoses to the radiator and fill the coolant through the expansion tank to a level 1 cm above the mark «KALT» (cold) on the expansion tank.
Remove air from the cooling system by removing the coolant temperature sensor from the intake manifold. As soon as liquid begins to flow out from under the sensor without air bubbles, wrap the sensor. Check the fluid level in the expansion tank and top it up.
