Removing
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and secure the front of the vehicle. Remove the bottom engine cover.
3. Disconnect tubes and hoses of a transmission from a dividing partition of an impellent compartment.
4. Disconnect the wire from the reversing light switch
5. Disconnect the front of the propeller shaft from the gearbox flange and remove the shock absorber.
6. Remove the shift rod of the gear shift mechanism.
2.0 liter engines
7. On SOHC engines, disconnect the wire from the DIS module. Remove the module bracket bolts and remove the module from the rear of the cylinder head. Release the high voltage wires from the clamps.
8. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire from the transmission.
9. Remove the bracket for the front section of the exhaust pipe and disconnect the front section from the intermediate one.
10. Remove the bolts securing the brackets to the gearbox and to the cylinder block. Remove both brackets and remove the bottom flywheel cover.
11. Remove the two bolts securing the rear of the gearbox to the top bracket.
12. Install a jack under the gearbox.
13. Remove the bolts securing the rear cross member to the body.
14. Slightly lower the gearbox on the jack.
15. Remove the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
16. Remove the gearbox from under the car.
2.5 and 3.0 liter engines
17. Remove both front exhaust pipes.
18. Remove the gearbox.
19. Remove the two bolts securing the rear of the gearbox to the top bracket.
20. Install a jack under the gearbox.
21. Remove the bolts securing the rear cross member to the body.
22. Slightly lower the gearbox on the jack.
23. Remove the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
24. Remove the gearbox from under the car.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Transmission overhaul
Overhauling the gearbox is a very complicated procedure, so contact a specialist to carry it out.
