Intermediate muffler — replacement (Opel Zafira A)

The necessity of performing this operation should be determined during the inspection of the technical condition of the exhaust system (see "Exhaust system - technical condition check").

Sequence of execution



Note: The operation is shown on a car manufactured after 2000. On earlier cars, the operation is performed similarly.


1. Place the vehicle on an inspection ditch or overpass (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Using a metal brush, clean the clamp of the intermediate muffler from dirt and loose rust and treat it with penetrating lubricant.

3. Use a 13 mm wrench to loosen the clamp nut.

Note: The clamp is welded to the muffler at the top.

4. Disconnect the main muffler (see "Main muffler - replacement").

Warning: After disconnecting the main muffler, the rear of the intermediate muffler must be supported.


5. Remove the intermediate muffler from the front suspension mounts, moving it back along the inlet pipe.

Warning: After removing the intermediate muffler, it is necessary to support the rear of the downpipe.


Recommendation: To facilitate the separation of the muffler pipes, apply several blows with a hammer around the circumference of the clamp and along the pipe connection.

6. Remove the intermediate muffler from the rear cushions.

7. Install the parts in reverse order.
