Cleaning the engine and underhood space (Opel Zafira A)

            0

During vehicle operation, the engine compartment becomes heavily contaminated and, unlike the body and interior of the vehicle, is usually neglected at car washes. However, a heavily contaminated engine can cause more trouble than a dirty body or interior. Therefore, it is necessary to periodically clean the engine and underhood space.

There are many electronic components in the engine compartment, therefore we do not recommend cleaning the engine compartment with high-pressure devices (as most car washes do).

Cleaning should be carried out in the following order.

Note: The work is shown on the example of cleaning the 1.6 DOHC engine. On other engines the operation is performed similarly.

1. Disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Apply a special preparation for cleaning the engine to the decorative trim, visible parts of the engine and the underhood space, avoiding the composition getting on the electrical components.

3. Wait a few minutes (see instructions for use of the drug).

4. Wash off the softened dirt with a weak stream of water. If necessary, additionally clean the surfaces with a brush with hard bristles or a rag.

Warning: Do not allow water to come into contact with electrical components.

5. Remove the decorative engine cover (see "Engine trim panel - removal and installation").

6. Apply a special preparation to the engine parts covered by a decorative cover, avoiding the composition getting on the electrical components.

8. For cleaning electronic components (ignition coils, high-voltage wires, fuse box, etc.) it is better to use a rag or brush with engine cleaning agent applied to them, and then wipe them dry.

9. Blow out the engine and underhood space with compressed air to remove any remaining water and install the decorative trim in place.
