There are many electronic components in the engine compartment, in this regard, we do not recommend cleaning the engine compartment with high-pressure cleaners (like most car washes do).
Cleaning should be carried out in the following order.
Comment. The work is shown on the example of cleaning a 1.6 DOHC engine. On other engines, the operation is carried out similarly.
1. Disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. We apply a special agent for cleaning the engine on the decorative trim, visible parts of the engine and engine compartment, avoiding contact with electrical components.
3. We are waiting for a few minutes (see instructions for use of the drug).
4. Wash off softened dirt with a gentle stream of water. If necessary, additionally clean the surfaces with a brush with a hard pile or a rag.
Warning! Keep water away from electrical components.
5. Remove the engine trim (see «Decorative overlay of the engine - removal and installation»).
6. We apply a special preparation to the engine parts covered with a decorative overlay, avoiding contact of the composition with electrical components.
7. We wait a few minutes (see instructions for use of the drug) and wash off softened dirt with a gentle stream of water. If necessary, additionally clean the surfaces with a brush with a hard pile or a rag.
8. For cleaning electronic components (ignition coils, high-voltage wires, fuse box, etc.) it is better to use a rag or a brush with a preparation applied to them to clean the engine, and then wipe them dry.
9. We blow the engine and the engine compartment with compressed air to remove residual water and install the decorative trim in place.
