Replacing headlight bulbs (Opel Kadett D)

Normal incandescent lamps (non halogen) are subject to wear and tear. They need to be replaced every 2 years, even if they are still in good working order. An incandescent lamp with reduced luminous intensity can be recognized by a black coating on the glass bulb.

Before replacing the lamp, disconnect the corresponding circuit.

Warning: Do not touch the bulb with bare fingers. Fingerprints will evaporate and settle on the reflector, darkening it. Replace the bulb with the same one. Any stains that appear should be wiped with a clean, lint-free cloth soaked in alcohol.

Removal

Raise and secure the hood.

Disconnect the plug and cable from the pump.

Remove the headlight cover.



Squeeze the retaining clip and turn to remove the lamp from the reflector housing.

Installation

Insert the new lamp so that the nose of the retainer on the lamp plate enters the slot in the reflector.



Secure the lamp with a bracket.

Connect the headlight cover and plug.

Halogen headlights

Removal

Loosen both mounting bolts on the bottom of the headlight housing. Hold the headlight with your hand so that it does not fall out. Pull the headlight downwards out of the housing.



Release and rotate the spring terminals.

Remove the lamp from the socket and disconnect the cable.

Installation

Connect the cable to the lamp. Insert the lamp. The grooves in the lamp plate should match the projections of the reflector.

Compress the spring terminals.

Insert the optical element of the headlight and secure with bolts.
