1. Using a thin slotted screwdriver, pry up and remove the plug in the right threshold trim.

2. Raise the sound insulation.

Decoding the identification number
1 - the first three characters according to international standards indicate the manufacturer's code
2 - the fourth character indicates the design variant:
- 0 - non-special (normal) execution
- R - execution for postal services
- J - version for Japan, etc.
- 3 - the fifth character indicates the car model (Astra)
- 4 - the sixth character indicates the model generation (G)
Note: On the Zafira generation A models, positions 3 and 4 are identical to the Astra generation G model.
5 - the seventh character indicates the body configuration:
- F is the simplest
- M - medium
- R - the highest
6 - the eighth and ninth characters indicate the body type:
- 08 - three-door hatchback
- 19, 69 - four-door hatchback
- 35 - station wagon
- 48 - sedan
- 75 - minivan (Zafira)
7 - the tenth character indicates the year of manufacture:
- W - 1998
- X - 1999
- Y - 2000
- 1 - 2001
- 2 - 2002
- 3 - 2003
- 4 - 2004
- 5 - 2005
- 6 - 2006
8 - the eleventh character indicates the location of the manufacturer
9 - the twelfth to seventeenth characters indicate the serial number of the car body.
There is a marking plate attached to the rear pillar of the front right door opening.

The identification plate duplicates the identification number and contains additional information about the vehicle.
Identification plate:
1 - manufacturer;
2 - model;
3 - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN);
4 - maximum permitted vehicle weight;
5 - maximum permitted mass of a vehicle with a trailer;
6 - permissible load on the front axle;
7 - permissible load on the rear axle;
8 - vehicle equipment code.
The model code and engine number are stamped on the front wall of the cylinder block next to the clutch or torque converter housing.

Decoding the engine model code
The first letter is present on vehicles equipped with a catalytic converter and indicates compliance with emission standards. The next two digits indicate the engine displacement in liters (multiplied by 10). The first letter after the numbers indicates the engine compression ratio. The next letter indicates the type of injection system. The last letter (if any) is the version. The next two numbers are the engine manufacturer. The remaining six numbers (or a letter and five numbers) — engine serial number.
